Aloha
The 16th Annual Hawaii Star Ball held October 03-06 at the Sheraton Waikiki was a tremendous success with a 50% increase in entries.
Mahalo to all of the Students, Teachers and Spectators who helped make it so.
We would also like to especially thank the Teachers and Students who took the time to get their entries in on time for the program deadline. This is so important in order to set a timetable that allows for General Dancing and sufficient time to relax and change for Dinner each evening. Several studios had to be turned down due to their being late. We apologize for this but we do publish a closing date that is strictly adhered to.
The daytime sessions were devoted to Pro/Am, Amateur and Rising Star Professional divisions with entries from Australia, Canada, Hawaii, Japan, and Mainland USA.
Come the evening and the scene changes. All evenings commence with a banquet covering many styles of cuisine with up to 600 dinners being served each evening. During dinner we had demonstrations of Hawaiian Kahiko and Auana Hula, a Chinese Lion Dance Team, and Japanese Taiko Drumming. Following the banquets Professional events and Showcases entertained us.
Our guest shows were by Jukka Haapalainen and Sirpa Suutari, from Finland and Linas Koreiva and Ieva Pauksena from New York.
The Saturday evening show finished with Jukka and Sirpa and Linas and Ieva dancing their Showdance Routines. Local singer, Rodney Cazimero then closed with the traditional Hawaiian closing, singing "Hawaii Aloha" with everyone joining hands expressing the spirit of ALOHA
Note the venue and date change for 2008 - September 30 - October 03 at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Hotel. The event will now start Tuesday evening with the reception and finish on the Friday evening. The entry deadline will be September 13.
